Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Opportunities

Job Description

Maintenance Technicians maintain and repair community property. Their duties include street maintenance, sanitation, sidewalk repair, pothole patching, curb and gutter repair, street and alley grading, sewer maintenance, landscaping and installing, as well as repair and maintenance of traffic control devices.

Working Conditions

The work is performed both outdoors and inside, in all kinds of weather. These workers use hand and power tools, but may also operate heavy equipment. They may occasionally use chemicals. Maintenance workers must be physically fit and be able to do work that requires heavy lifting, bending and stretching.

Minimum Qualifications

Apprenticeship applicants in Springfield must meet that city´s civil service requirements. This program is only open to employees of the training agents registered with the local apprenticeship committee.
